Aviation English Language Proficiency (ELP)
SUDAFAST is an accredited centre for conducting the Aviation English Language Proficiency (ELP) examination for pilots and air traffic controllers, in accordance with ICAO Annex 1 and Doc 9835.

Aviation English Proficiency Levels
Performance is rated on six levels defined in ICAO Annex 1. Level 4 is the minimum operational requirement.
Level 6 — Expert
Full native-level proficiency across pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and interactions.
Valid for lifeLevel 5 — Extended
Advanced proficiency enabling effective communication in familiar and unfamiliar contexts, with only occasional errors that do not affect meaning.
Valid for 6 yearsLevel 4 — Operational
The minimum ICAO operational requirement — effective communication in routine contexts and the ability to handle unexpected situations.
Valid for 3 yearsRated Skills
The Six Rated Skills
Candidates are rated across six language skills. The final ICAO level is the lowest of the six.
